I am preparing a review article on cutaneous melanoma for the journal American Family Physician. I am in need of a photograph of just this diagnosis. How can I acquire permission to use this photograph in my manuscript?Donald W. Never noticed the photo showed a black spot on the outside of the small toe on my left foot.

6 months later, accidentally banged the same toe on the sharp edge of a chair. Hurt like hell, give it a good rub, and noticed what looked like a blood blister.

Three months later, noticed the blood blister had not healed, and decided to give nature a helping hand. Using an emery board, sanded down the skin until blood oozed. Immediately felt better but, over the next few days, got
worse again with brown spots close by.

Went to my GP, then to dermatologist, got biopsy and diagnosis of invasive, malignant melanoma. Stage 2+ was diagnosed, because of apparent
ulceration (use of emery board was ignored).

Toe and surrounding skin were excised, lymph glands were clean and pathology results indicated stage 1 (1 mm thickness). 1 year later, I know how
lucky I was - now, regular skin checkups every 3 months, hope to see 80.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
